Watermelon Seeds Studio takes your privacy seriously, and this page says plainly what we collect, why, who else sees it and how long we keep it. No small print, no surprises.
If anything here is unclear, ask us. We would rather explain it than have you wondering.
What we collect
We only ask for what we need to do the thing you have asked us to do. Depending on how you use this website, that can include:
- Your name, email address and phone number, when you place an order or get in touch.
- Basic technical information your browser sends when you visit, such as the pages you looked at. We use this to keep the site working, not to build a profile of you.
What we do not collect
We never see or store your card details. When you pay, you are handed to Square, who take the payment and tell us only whether it succeeded and how much it was for. Your card number does not pass through this website.
We do not sell your information. We do not trade it, rent it, or hand it to anyone for advertising.
Why we collect it
To take and fulfil your order, to send it to the right address, to answer you when you contact us, and to keep the sales records the tax law requires us to keep.
Who else sees it
A small number of services help us run this website and are only given what they need for their part of it:
- Square, to take your payment.
- Our website and email hosting providers, who store the order record and deliver the confirmation email.
- Australia Post or a courier, when something is being posted to you, who are given the delivery address.
- Our accountant and the Australian Taxation Office, in the ordinary course of keeping our books.
How long we keep it
Order and sales records are kept for five years from the date of the sale, because Australian tax law requires it. After five years they are either deleted or stripped of anything that identifies you, and only the anonymous sales figures are kept.
Enquiries that do not turn into an order are deleted once the conversation is finished and there is no longer a reason to keep them.
Keeping it safe
Anything you send us is stored in the system that runs this website. Getting into that system requires a login, and only the people who need your details in order to reply to you have one.
Everything you send us travels over an encrypted connection, which is what the padlock in your browser address bar means.
In the unlikely event your information were exposed in a way that could cause you serious harm, we would tell you what happened and report it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, as Australian law requires.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us at the contact details on this website and we will respond within a reasonable time, and within thirty days at the outside.
There is one limit worth being upfront about: we cannot delete a completed sales record before the five years is up, because we are legally required to keep it. Everything else can go.
Cookies
This website stores your shopping cart in your own browser so it is still there if you close the tab. That information stays on your device and is not sent to us until you place an order. We do not run advertising or tracking cookies.
Complaints and contact
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first at the contact details on this website and we will do our best to sort it out.
If you are still not satisfied, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
