How this group came together
Our story
Watermelon Seeds Studio grew out of Brisbane's Palestine solidarity events, where familiar faces became friendships and friendships became a shared project.
We began with handmade polymer earrings sold at those events, and the collection has grown as our community of crafters has grown.
You'll find our full range of jewellery, accessories, decor and gifts at our stalls at Palestine solidarity events across Brisbane.
The biggest day of our year is our annual Christmas Market for Palestine, and this one will be our largest yet. Alongside our own Palestinian and watermelon themed pieces, there'll be art by local artists, a coffee van, a Manakeesh stall, a healthy sweets stall, a plant stall, henna painting, badge making, kids activities, live music, a dabke troupe and a silent auction!
100% of profits raised by Watermelon Seeds Studio are donated to Palestinian causes. All profits from our cookbook and calendars are donated to the Palestinian Australian New Zealand Medical Association (PANZMA). We have also been proud to be able to support TAQWA, a local organisation that supports Palestinian refugees who have arrived in Brisbane since 2023.
A portion of our current profits are being donated to the high court challenge that has recently been launched by seven Brisbane community members, against the new laws prohibiting the uttering or display of two pro Palestinian protest slogans in public. Four of the seven community member plaintiffs have already been charged under these new laws that restrict freedom of speech, and face up to 2 years prison time and/or a fine of $25,035 if convicted.
